My Tips: The border between Germany and France don’t have any custom check. But Frankfurt is a big city and the motorway to access to the airport can be crowded on rush hour during weekdays (06:30am to 08:30am and 04:30pm to 06:30pm). Remember that if your transfer is during rush hours, I advise you to schedule an extra hour. In case of traffic jams, you will be calm.
Between Frankfurt airport and Strasbourg, if you are not to tired after your flight, why not enjoying a stop in the charming city of Heidelberg in Germany? Program 3 hours to go to visit the Castle, the city center and having a snack.
Zurich-Kloten International Airport
As one of Europe’s major hubs, Zurich Airport offers excellent international flight options. After Frankfurt, Zurich Airport is the second closest / nearest airport to Strasbourg for international travelers. My Tips: Between Zurich airport and Strasbourg, you will have to cross the Switzerland border and custom. A lot of Alsatian and German are going to work in Switzerland and cross the Switzerland border on weekdays. This traffic jam can affect you during rush hour (06:00am to 08:30am and 04:30pm to 06:30pm). If your transfer is during rush hours, I advise you to schedule an extra hour and in case of traffic jams, you will be calm.
Paris Charles de Gaulles Airport
Remember that our region of Alsace is on the edge of France, on the border with Germany. The nearest and most convenient airports to fly to are not in … France. Paris Charles De Gaulle airport is far away although there is a high speed TGV train connection to Strasbourg. Otherwise, if you decide to drive or book a transfer (even with me), you will have a 6 hours drive in front of you.

Driving time : 5h00 non stop
So to me, even if Paris is the capital of France, Paris Airport is not the closest airports to fly to Strasbourg. Of course if you are planning to combine a stay in Paris before or after your stay in Strasbourg, Paris airport remains in the loop.
European Airport
If you are traveling from Europe, you will of course find a flight to Frankfurt and Zurich Airport. But Maybe you can find a closest and nearest airport to Strasbourg.
Strasbourg Entzheim Airport, the Closest / Nearest European airport to Strasbourg
Strasbourg Airport has international flights, mainly to other European cities. It is the closest airport to the city and offers basic international connections.

Driving time : 20-30min
In recent years, Strasbourg airport has been developing well. Thanks in particular to the airline Volotea, several destinations are directly connected to Strasbourg. Strasbourg Airport is at 20km from Strasbourg city.
Barcelona, Lanzarote, Malaga, Palma de Majorque in Spain. Olbia, Palerme and Rome Fiumicino in Italy. Athenes and Corfou in Grece. Split in Croatia. Marrakech in Marrocco. London Gatwick. Faro in Portugal. Berlin in Germany. All these destinations are directly connected with Strasbourg Airport with Volotea.

Euroairport Basel/Mulhouse
EuroAirport is an international airport located in France near the borders Germany, and Switzerland. It offers a wide range of flights to various destinations in Europe and beyond. Especially with the airlines Easyjet.

Driving time : 1h30
My tips: The access to Euroairport Basel/Mulhouse can be affected by traffic jams during rush hour. From/to Strasbourg you will have to drive through Colmar motorway (risk of traffic jam during rush hour 07:00am to 09:00am and 04:30pm to 06:00pm). Further, a lot of Alsatian are going to work in Switzerland and cross the the Switzerland custom/border. This traffic jam can affect you early morning (06:00am to 08:30am) when you want to access to Euroairport.
If your final destination is Alsace… When clearing customs, make sure you choose the exit marked FRANCE and not SWITZERLAND.
A last personal advice: try to avoid to take a flight which arrive in Euroairport after 11:00pm. There is an agreement with the citizen who lives in the nearby villages of the airport. It’s forbidden for airlines to land after midnight. In case of delay, you flight will probably be cancel. It happenned to me and my girlfriend on an Easyjet flight from Nice (south of France) to Euroairport in April 2024. We supposed to land at 11:30pm. First they announced 1 hour of delay before cancelling completely the flight. We stay blocked in Nice.
Stuttgart Airport
Flight all over Europe with the Airlines Eurowings, Lufthansa, Condor, Volotea, Wizz, Sun Express.

My tips: From years ago there’s roadworks on the motorway which could cause major traffic jams. Airlines suggest being at the airport 2 hours before the flight. I advise you to schedule 1 hour more. You will arrive 3 hours before the flight and in case of traffic jams you will be calm.
Karlsruhe Baden-Baden Airpark
This airport is in Germany and serves various low-cost airlines. It provides a range of international and European flights. Most of the flight to Karlsruhe Baden-Baden Airpoark are with the low-cost airline Ryanair.
