Take Part in the Spring Transhumance, Saturday 20st May 2023
Like every year in the spring, some mountain farms lead their Vosges cows to their high pastures. Live the event with us in a farm that we know well and enjoy this unique atmosphere. Don’t worry, we won’t make it all the way on foot… because to follow the cows uphill, you would have to be a top athlete. As you can see in the video, this unique event takes place whatever the weather.
We will go in the morning to the “lower” farm, in the valley of Munster, to see the preparation of the cows. They must be beautiful for this great day of Transhumance. Then we will follow the departure of the cows for a few minutes before they get too far ahead 🙂 And yes, in the spring, it goes up. We will board the vehicle and via another path, we will go around the cows to wait for them higher up the mountain and meet them again, photograph them… all to the sound of the ringing bells, the famous clarines.
Once at the top in the early afternoon, we will enjoy a good macaire meal at the farm inn. You can taste local products made by farmers, all with a beautiful view of the Munster valley.
On the way back, we will stop at a wine estate in the Munster Valley to enjoy a tasting of superb wines. You will taste here, at the Schoenheitz estate, exceptional wines.
